Perform Less,
Record More
The bad news is that
the weak economy and high gas prices have
cut back on my bookings. In addition, many coffeehouses
have closed down.
The good news is that it's
freed up time to work in the studio again, to upgrade my equipment
and to return to other neglected artistic interests. |

Photography
Not having to travel
and play coffeehouses means that I've been devoting more time
to photography, my other passion.  I
did a photo shoot for the CD cover of a Canadian recording artist.
I've also been doing a series of experimental photo shoots
with "real" models. It's good for women
to see alternative images of their peers, who are not always
stick-thin and perfect like the ones we see in magazines, movies
and fashion shows. |

Teaching
It's a pleasure teaching acoustic guitar, electric guitar and
percussion to several students. Their humility, dedication
and open-mindedness about learning something new is both refreshing
and inspiring. |

Field Recordings
There is music
in our natural surroundings. If we take the time to be
still and listen critically, all kinds of tones, textures, dynamics
and rhythms come out from hiding.
In a visually-driven culture, "Field Recording" is a great way

Live Recordings
 In
lieu of travelling to coffeehouses, I've been stretching and
playing a variety of instruments on a semi-regular basis at Shelter
Rock Church. It's
the best church I've ever been to. Real, down-to-earth
people rather than crazy fundamentalists.
I've been capturing just about every Sunday that I've been scheduled
to play at and have amassed over 200 recordings. That's
more than 16 hours of live music. |
